Scammed
Let me start out with the fact that I'm not an internet dummy. Since first discovering I could find all the lyrics to my favorite songs back in 1995, I've been pretty much constantly attached. I'm also not an internet paranoid who believes that my dogs will be murdered and used as science experiments if I give my email address to someone.
When the phishing scams came out, I sat back and pitied the poor individuals who fell for it. The Nigerian scams? Well, I was known to have said, what do you expect when you try to get something for nothing? I should've listened to my own self-righteous ass.
Jason and I got new cell phones yesterday. I've had a cell phone off and on since 1999, never sticking with one company, so constantly changing my number that whenever a utility company or something like it asks what my telephone number is, I can never remember. But we decided we needed something in the cars for emergencies, and to talk to my mom whenever she wanted, so we got prepaid phones that have unlimited mobile-to-mobile with the same company that most members of my family have cell phones with.
The last time I had a cell phone, when I wanted ringtones, I just went to their website, chose a few, and downloaded them. I actually paid for the service with my credit card.
So I went to my service provider's website and could find NOTHING this time about ringtones. And how can I possibly have a cell phone without having Chani's number come up as "My Humps"? So I went looking on the internet.
And I found these sites that say, "To make sure your phone is capable of our service, put in your phone number and we will text message you with a pin! Then come back here and put it in!"
So I got a little text message that basically said, "10 credits + bonus only $9.99/m Text Help for Help Stop PP to close, Ur password is 7845, enter online for exclusive content!" Of course, I thought, they would spam me for advertising...
